The Soup

My soup arrived via Priority Mail all the way from Snowflake, AZ. The same day, I got a questionnaire for Federal Jury Duty in Philadelphia.  (Philadelphia is a good hour away without traffic).
My soup partner is Gina Hockett.

I love the card! Let's all do the Bead Soup Happy Dance!
There were lots of little packages in the box all wrapped so pretty.
Inside each of those packages were little plastic boxes, all labeled. It took me almost 1/2 hour to peel the tape off and discover the little treasures inside!

The soup is beautiful!  Lampwork by two amazing artists, (Carolyn Collins and Laurie Armet) Czech glass, pearls, glass beads, sari ribbon and more!  My soup is simmering.......

Below is a picture of what I sent Gina. It was a quick picture I took at my work space.

The Girls' Soup

Many of you know that my daughter, Sarah, and Staci's daughter, Julia, also exchanged soups.
Julia is following in her mother's footsteps, creating beautiful polymer clay pieces.
This is the soup that Julia put together for Sarah. Sarah loves all the bright colors of Ynonne's pieces and Genea's wing dings are so much fun!
But the polymer hearts are the best!  Sarah asked if I still has some polymer clay in the basement!  Staci, a play date might be in our future. lol. Sarah want to learn clay and she can teach Julia enameling!
Below is a picture of the soup Sarah sent Julia.

NYC ~~~~~ Again!

I went to NYC again!  This time I was there for 5 days.
This was the view from the hotel room.
View at Night
Notice the snow on the roof tops!

I was tagging along on a business trip that my hubby had to go on. One of his co-workers also brought his wife, Natasha, along. We hit it off immediately, was like finding a long lost friend. :)
Friday night we caught a play, Cinderella.  It was wonderful, with Fran Drescher as the Evil Stepmom.

On Saturday, Natasha and I headed to Mood Fabric. The store is amazing, 3 floors of wonderful material, trims and ideas!  I bought some leather lace that looks like barbed wire, I just could not pass it up. Natasha bought some beautiful fabric to make a scarf.

After shopping in the morning, we met up with our husbands and went to Ground Zero.  The memorial is breathtaking. I felt it was an amazing tribute to those that lost their lives, yet was peaceful and healing at the same time.
From here we split up, Rich and I headed to Chinatown to shop for tea (one of my obsessions) and lunch.

On Sunday, Natasha and I hit the shops on 5th Ave. We walked every floor of Sax, trying to find something we could afford!  Our feet were throbbing, but we plowed on. I drug her into Beads World where I picked up a bunch of chain and some findings.
That night, the 4 of us went to the Carnegie Deli and had pastrami and cheese cake.
I justified the calorie intake by the amount of walking I had done!

On Monday, Natasha had to leave and head back home. But, my friend Bobbi came in from PA on the bus......guess what we did?  BEAD SHOPPING! Check out Bobbi's work at www.shopbobbi.com

By the time we were done, our bags must of weighed 50 pounds.
We went to Metalliferous - love this place!  Tools, metal, wire, copper, silver, brass, ols and new stuff!  Need patina?  They got it. Need sterling clasps?  They got it. Want the materials and tools to soldering?  They have that too.

After our purchases were complete, we heading to York Beads. This place is floor to ceiling Czech Glass beads. Here is a picture of just half of one wall:
Here is what I bought.

We left while we still had some money in our pockets, that is hard to do, and headed over to CJS
We were greated by the employee of the month, David. He is a hoot and everyone I have taken to CJS loves him. Karl, the owner, ordered pizza for us while we dug to find treasures to purchase.

CJS is unique in that your purchase by the pound. And when we talk about a treasure hunt, that is what we mean!  Here are just a few pictures from our time there.

Hi!

I can't believe that I have not blogged in almost a year!  I am going to try and do better.

So what have I been up to?

Well this is how I spent my summer :

My son played on a tournament Little League team and my daughter spent her summer swimming for the local swim team.

Once sports were over we went on vacation.
Our favorite place is the beach!

Once home from vacation, school was about to start!
I got a job teaching at a local preschool 5 mornings a week. I love my job, but it sure has cut into my studio time!

I'm heading to NYC next week and will soon have an update of my Etsy shop.

Have a great day!

Bead Soup Reveal #1

This is my first Bead Soup Swap and I am really excited! I had all my pieces made and was heading to the beach for Easter break with my extended family, a perfect setting for taking pictures. One problem, I remembered the necklace and forgot the earrings.
I will post pictures of the earrings when we get home, probably Tuesday.

Here is my soup that I received from Breana.
Check out her blog here:  Vault 31

I was really stumped on what to do with the pieces I received.  I usually don't work with any gold parts and pieces.  I have some gold chains, but they were way to fine for my ideas.  I picked out this brass chain and found I was very pleased with the look next to the gold.  I then created dangles with the unique head pins that were in my soup.
Something was still not right with the necklace, so I dug into my stash and found the flower shaped double drilled shell that went perfect with the pieces Breana sent me.
After messing around trying to wire wrap it onto the chain, I gave up.  It was not what I was looking for.
Then there to my right sitting on my table was the beautiful hand died seam binding from Karen Lackey.  Check out her Etsy shop at Starshine Salon.

Check out the other amazing artists and what they did with their bead soup!
Happy Hopping Everyone!
Just one last picture - This was the sunset overlooking the sound in the distance, just before I sat down to work on this blog.
This is what I will be looking at today as I check out all the amazing Bead Soup Blogs!
